Pre Cage fitting Prep

If you remember i said i saved the cage from the old Datsun cherry. It was now time to prep our other Cherry to have the cage fitted so let’s get too it.

After many conversations with Scott at Scott McMinn motorsport who promised to get the car in to fit the cage and cancelled many times then started not returning my calls or answering. I tested this by calling from my mobile then immediately after from another phone to which Scott answered then hung up on me. I can see why he’s no longer running a business.

I looked around for another company to do the work i found a company Millermods Garage in Tillicoultry near Stirling. After a couple of conversations with Alan he agreed to carry out the work.

I had to get the car stripped ready for the cage but also get the cage to him. I started stripping the car which was the easy task.

I started by removing all the trim and seats. Then the dashboard and finally all the sound deadening.

Lastly I took the spare wheel out. This is the original spare with a date of 04/1983. Even though it’s never seen the road it wouldn’t pass an MOT.

I then had to split the cage to get in the Cherry. This was a slow process as i wanted to only cut the origonal welds and not the bars and only cutting the minimal sections just so it would fit inside the car.

Then on the agreed date i the cage into the car and loaded up the car onto the trailer and took it over to Millermods Garage. I had a good chat with Alan regarding the work and left it too him.
