Datsun Cherry Saftey Cage

Once the cherry was home i flsuhed out the system and got it running at least so it could be moved about with out worry. Next the car was dropped of to have have a custom roll cage fitted one of Nicky’s conditions for me racing. I intrusted this task to a well know cage builder called Scott Mcminn motorsport.

Scott did a fantast job of the cage. I think the picture will speak for them selves. Sorry the pictures are quite small but they are not my pictures.

Some better pictures once i got the car back home and painted the cage.

I have done loads on the car, Replaced engine brakes. I even gave it a machine polish which brought it up really good.

I started to look at the rear arches where things took a bad turn. After i dug some of the rust out both forward and rear of the rear arch i was shocked to find it all filled with expanable foam. I decided it was took risky to continue with the car because of what i was using it for. So the car was cut up so i could save the roll cage. The rest of the car was stripped for parts and shell recycled.

After a very hard decision and encouragement from Nicky it was decided to use the low mileage Cherry we have had since 2010. Also a friend said to me (he builds race cars) to always start with the best shell you can.

More on this soon.
